In the most appropriately-timed research study ever, a 2020 study on 20/20 vision found out something new about how we see. Scientists previously thought visual acuity was primarily determined by the eye's optics and the retina's anatomy. But the new study shows that small subconscious eye movements also play a big role. "Fixational eye movements" were once thought to be unimportant because they are so small, but it turns out they are critical to proper vision. This study may lead to improved treatments and therapies for vision impairments – good news in 2020 for your 20/20!
